Payson Library will host and participate in events throughout New Student Orientation Week in August.

International New Student Orientation 

Surfboard Room 

International students, come join us for a day of important information and social connections. These sessions are required. Attendance will be taken, and meals will be provided. Note: For details about the international student orientation schedule, consult the insert in the front of your orientation program guide. Due to space restrictions, these sessions are for students only.

Come find out how libraries have changed since you were in school, and how we support academic learning. You’ll also learn about our treasured Saint John’s Bible from our special collections and archives staff and visit Genesis Lab, our makerspace for emerging technology.

Academic Support Resources for Student Success

This session will cover the academic support resources that are available to students at the Seaver Student Success Center. From tutoring, to academic coaching, to sponsored study groups, we are equipped to guide your daughter or son through her or his academic journey.

Feeling Good about Letting Go

Payson Library, Surfboard Room

Students aren’t the only ones going through a life change. Parents go through a transition, too. In this session you’ll hear about what to expect and learn ways to adjust to your changing role.

Representatives from the Parents Program, Financial Aid, Housing and Residence Life, Risk Management, Student Success Center, Public Safety, the Library, Student Accounts, the Campus Bookstore, and Greek Life will be present to answer your questions.

First-Generation Family Reception

Student Success Center

Join us at the Student Success Center for an opportunity to connect with other first-generation students and their families. Enjoy refreshments with staff and faculty and learn about our community of support at Seaver College.

Waves Expo 

Alumni Park 

Numerous vendors, student leadership organizations, and various University departments will be present to share with you all the resources available to help you succeed in college.

3:30pm – 4:45pm

Transfer Expo

Kresge Reading Room

Come to the Transfer Expo for resources needed for a successful transition. Don’t miss the raffle prizes and opportunity to connect with the Counseling Center, Student Care Team, Library, Information Technology and Transfer Mentors.

3:30pm – 6:00pm Life Outside the Classroom

During this time you will attend sessions that highlight all the opportunities for involvement, including service, student organizations, and employment on campus.

VR and Board Games at Payson Library

Payson Library, Genesis Lab

Bring your A game to Payson Library for an afternoon of fun. Drop in to try out virtual reality games in the Genesis Lab makerspace or enjoy more traditional board games like Scrabble, Monopoly, or Apples to Apples. And don’t forget to scope out the resources at Payson Library while you’re here, since you’ll be using them throughout the next four years!
