The Pepperdine University Libraries join over 600 other libraries, archives, museums worldwide in the #ArchivesHashtagParty social media initiative, started by the U.S. National Archives in September 2017. On the first Friday of every month, partner institutions share treasures from their archives that fit the monthly theme.
David S. Ferriero, the Archivist of the United States, has written about how this virtual celebration of history helps archives reach a global audience, “bringing visibility to our collective holdings and the value of the work we do.”
For the June 2018 theme of #ArchivesRoadTrip, Pepperdine contributed the following three items from the Pepperdine University Special Collections and Archives.
1. A film still from the 1964 Frankie and Annette movie Muscle Beach Party.
2. A 1926 photo of Malibu during the construction of the iconic Pacific Coast Highway.
3. A clip from the opening of the 1958 short film Twenty-One Years, celebrating the 21st anniversary of the founding of George Pepperdine College in 1937.
